About ONEHEALTH
ONEHEALTH is a pioneering, cross-border initiative using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance understanding and drive innovation across human, animal, and environmental health.
Over four years, the project will build a collaborative ecosystem that connects research, industry, and technology to tackle shared challenges in health and agrifood, and create new opportunities for sustainable economic growth across Northern Ireland and Ireland.
Led by Catalyst, with a consortium of leading universities and research organisations, across Northern Ireland and Ireland, ONEHEALTH is funded by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB) through the PEACEPLUS Programme.
What we do
ONEHEALTH connects research excellence with real-world innovation to create smarter, healthier systems across the island of Ireland. Our work focuses on two complementary strands:
Deep Research
Long-term AI research and innovation projects tackling complex, interconnected challenges in human, animal, and environmental health.
AI Accelerator
Intensive, nine-month innovation cycles helping small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) develop and commercialise AI-enabled products and processes.
Together, these strands form a dynamic engine of innovation: advancing world-class research, empowering local businesses, and driving sustainable growth across borders.
Through collaboration with universities, research institutes, and innovation hubs such as Momentum One Zero, the project ensures that advances in AI research are translated into practical applications for health and agrifood sectors.
Why it matters
Health, environment, and economy are deeply connected, but collaboration and data sharing between sectors remain limited. ONEHEALTH changes that.
By harnessing AI and fostering cross-border partnerships, the project will:
Boost SME competitiveness and innovation.
Create high-value, sustainable jobs in the health and agrifood sectors.
Deliver smarter, data-driven solutions that improve health outcomes for people, animals, and the environment.
Strengthen cross-border cooperation and economic resilience across Northern Ireland and Ireland.
The impact we aim
to create
By 2029, ONEHEALTH will have:
Supported 32 SMEs to introduce new AI-driven products and processes.
Delivered 12 cross-border AI research projects in health and agrifood innovation.
Strengthened the region’s global position as a leader in ‘One Health’ research and technology.
Driven new economic growth, created jobs, and improved population, animal, and environmental health outcomes.
